Three kinds, and the app tells you which you are in

The type of a channel decides what protection it can honestly offer, so it is surfaced rather than buried in a setting.

Org channels — every member of your organisation, end-to-end encrypted
Private channels — explicit membership, end-to-end encrypted, keys wrapped per member
Public channels — anyone can join, so E2EE would be theatre; they get TLS and encryption at rest, and are labelled as such

One speaker at a time, decided by the server

Floor control is arbitrated centrally, so two people pressing at once resolves the same way for everyone. The loser is told immediately rather than talking into a void.

Membership is a key grant, not just a row

On an encrypted channel, adding someone means wrapping the channel key to their device key. That has a useful consequence: the system knows who genuinely can read a channel.

What we do not claim

You will see competitors quote a maximum of several thousand users per channel. We have not run that, so we are not going to print it.

Fan-out is linear in listeners, and the current server is a single node — that is documented, not hidden
